Brawl Stars draft guide

A good draft answers three questions: what does the map reward, what does your team still need, and what can the enemy punish if you lock this pick now?

First pick: safety over power

With no enemy information, the only thing you control is how punishable your pick is. Take brawlers that stay useful against most compositions and fit the map. Blind-pick safety matters more than a marginal tier advantage here.

Middle picks: cover roles, watch the open pool

Now weigh two things at once: what your team still lacks (control, damage, objective pressure) and which strong counters are still available to the enemy. A pick that fixes your comp but leaves an obvious counter open is a trade, not a win.

Last pick: punish what you can see

Last pick is the only pick with complete information. Use it to counter the enemy’s key threat rather than to add another generically strong brawler. This is where counter knowledge pays off directly.

Counter risk vs counter reward

Countering one enemy brawler is only worth it if your pick still functions on the map and in the mode. A hard counter that cannot reach its target, or that dies to the rest of the enemy comp, loses you the game anyway.

Synergy and team roles

Some combinations do more than the sum of their parts: a wall-breaker plus a thrower, a control brawler plus an assassin that needs the space. Aim for one reliable damage threat, one control or area brawler and one brawler that can contest the objective.

Bans shape the whole draft

Bans remove the safest map-defining picks. After bans, re-check which counters remain open β€” the safest first pick before bans is often not the safest one after.

Map and mode context

Every step above changes per map. Read the map guides and mode guides for the picks that are actually viable where you are drafting.
